Over 920,000 votes later, VIBE announces the winner of it’s first annual Best Rapper Alive tournament

When VIBE decided to let the people decide The Best Rapper Alive, we just wanted to have a little fun. But with a final tally exceeding 920,000 votes, it’s safe to say we touched a nerve. Since the competition began on July 21, the NCAA tournament – style bracket sparked bedlam. T.I.? Nas? Joe Budden? Rick Ross? Decisions had to be – and were – made.

In the early rounds there were few upsets, as most of the higher-seeded competitors triumphed. Until the final eight MCs remained, it looked as though all four No. 1 seeds – Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem, and Andre 3000 – would land in the final four. But then, the bark of underdogs could be heard in the distance.

The lesser of the two upsets took place in the Big Punisher bracket. Andre was defeated by No. 3 seed The Game, just as his album, LAX (Geffen), was impacting nationwide. In the Pimp C bracket, Lil Wayne, the man who many thought would take home the title, lost to Ludacris, also a No. 3 seed. Unfortunately for The Game and Luda die-hards, Cinderella would not be anyone’s date to the big dance. Jay-Z and Eminem easily beat out Ludacris and Game respectively, setting up a titanic final matchup. In the end, Eminem prevailed in a surprising landslide victory. Despite no proper album releases, since 2004’s, Encore (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope), 69 percent of the votes went to Detroit’s native son easily outpacing office favorite Jay-Z’s 31 percent.

“It’s obviously an honor to have won the fans’ support by being voted the Best Rapper Alive,” Eminem said in response to his victory.   “I don’t think that there is any one rapper that is simply the best though.  Everyone who was in consideration and many others are the best at certain things, and at what they do.  But since VIBE’s offering the distinction, hell yeah I’ll accept!”

But no matter the victor, one thing was clear: The debate about who The Best Rapper Alive is (or is not) lives on. We just might have to do it again next year. For a complete breakdown of all the matches, go to VIBE.com/bestrapper.

I’m prolly going to jail for this post…so get it while it’s hot!

People of the Blogosphere… What is up?

So incase you were wondering Yes, I had a case of the Mondays. That can happen though when you enjoy the weekends as much as I do. Also I want to take a minute to congratulate my cousin Kenny and his new wife Else Summers who got married over this weekend on a huge rock right on the Pacific down here in So Cal. I had a great time friday at the wedding, the reception and the after party, best of luck to you both.

Normaly I wouldn’t mention a wedding, but this one was amazing [quick, great location, natural, casual] and it was the first wedding I’ve been to where noone mentioned money or gas prices bc it was outside on an annexed spot on a local beach.

Ok now back to the OSH business at hand,

Usually I won’t sleep on Monday’s, I’m sorry, but the good news is that just like when we work together Rah had my back and gave you the new -ish to start your week.

So since he held me down yesterday, I’ve decided today to build off his first post, by giving you some of the best hip-hop/ animation crossovers.

This First video is sorta cheatin’ because the song was actually never released as a single, but the priceless costumes and fact that it was on the Simpsons makes this hard to find Ludacris spot one of my alltime favorites

And this is 50.. so I’ll hold my tongue… yeah right with all this money 50 you prolly should have spend some on lighting or maybe textures. [I went to school for this man, don't brag about money then underpay]

Murs holds it down here with a mix of Old School NES and some live action

and who could hate any of Busta’s early vids [even if it is just fisheye lens and some sweat costumes]

or

But before all of them De La was puttin’ hippie rap on by utilizing a little known technology back then [the green screen]

and even Snoop’s tryin to get alittle more animated before taking [his] “Medicine” and finishing his bluegrass project

and finally one of the dopest videos ever. hands down. Nuff said.

Peace

Two for the price of one post…

1st lemme give NWK mad props for that post..kno your music people. Yo Yo I’m a huge onxy fan, soooooo you kno I was madd happy to find this today. A new song and video from Sticky Fingaz, the new single ‘Debo the Game’…wha wha bang bang. I’m feelin the song but I’m tired on the T-Pain effect everyone is using. But nevertheless this song/video is a typical Sticky Fingaz, robbing, shootting, mad faces, and angry. Just how we like it at OSH. Peep the vid let me know what you people think…and have a 5150 Weekend!

I was just up surfin the interweb. I herd this single but didn’t know there was a video for it until 5mins ago. I’m a huge Game fan, so I had to post this. Game + Travis Barker = Hotness.

I’m all about news on Monday..but you know how we do it. All Urban all the time. This is sorta old news but I think that alot of people don’t know about this, because I didn’t….and I’m im a true fan of hiphop.

There’s nothing marginal about hip-hop, and the Smithsonian says so in a new exhibit in the National Portrait Gallery. A Multi-year initiative to gather broad collection on hip-hop culture and culminate in comprehensive exhibition.
