Hopefully this will make your crappy Monday a little better, or at least make 5p come faster. I thought this was pretty cool and I wanted to share with my people (you).
Tattoo art and graffiti have always been closely correlated. So it seems fitting that actual graffiti should be the next wave of body art.
I can only hope that someone will do body art soon in Blek Le Rat or Banksy styles, as that would make this body art pop even more.
Well this months Print magazine is just a treasure chest of cool sh!t. From the same magazine that brought you the infographic about political campaign designs, brings you some of the only images of Visionaire #54.
Visionaire is an elite, French book maker known for pushing the limits of printing while working with some of the worlds most adored and recognized artists. Always cutting edge designs and never trully a book, last Issue # 53 on sound featured the likes of Cindy Sherman, Cat Power, That chick who married Kurt Cobain and the one who married John Lennon [Courtney Love & Yoko Ono], and that Bono guy and his band [U2]. Visionaire #54 doesn’t disappoint either, for $250, you receive a 12 page book on “Sports” and printing, plus 3 extremely limited edition shirts [1 S, 1 M, 1L]. The shirts come in sets of 3, incorporating photquality all over print designs, published into the design of the book, but don’t worry for $250 you can take them out and wear the one(s) that fit.
Lacoste Shirt in Print
These 3 do Not come together make sure to read the sets before purchasing.
So now that your all amped and rushing out to pick up you set of 3, I guess i should tell you… They seem to be on Backorder EVERYWHERE, and from what I’ve read these are not available in the US yet. There are a few stores that sell Visionaire and if you find one it couldn’t hurt to ask if they know when they’ll be getting it, but If your waiting to snipe these off Amazon I wouldn’t wait too long because whats the use of saving a few bucks if the clothes are out by the time you get em. Thats just stale.
so now onto the Fashion show, which can be seen at Visionaire’s website complete with leather clad woman and French Techno beats.
With only 24 hour to live left, I don’t know why i care and just so you know, I’m not concieted enough to think that all good ideas stem from Olde School [though they do], but the coincidence is impeccable. You may remember my post on political posters and such… well direct from the Oct 2008 edition of Print Magazine
Yeah that’s pretty demeaning, but whatever. I needed a new way to say “Hey” and since I didn’t post yesterday the “So how was your night?” doesn’t really work.
So since our blog is “Everything Urban” and clubs and parties are innately urban I thought I would give alittle love to some advertisements that we see so much we probably don’t even stop to think “Damn someone got paid for this crap?! Werd? ” Thats right I’m talking about Flyer designers.
I was going to start with a diatribe about using the same beach, big booty shots, fonts and ripped off logos but I decided to turn this post on its side and not just hate but elevate.
So class is in session, get ready for the anatomy of a flyer designer, ripped directly from the pages of Vice Magazine.
Half-way through this ohh-so informative post is the inspiration for the second part of my post today. The writer breaks every Futurist rule by telling the audience about What The Font. So in the spirit of full disclosure I would like to tell the rest of you about a few design webpages we’ve been hording for a while.
FlashKit – So ok the FlashKit interface isn’t ground breaking, and the actual site design itself looks more like something your sysadmin put together than a designer but this site is actually a treasure trove of Tutorials and Sound files for Developers and Designers. With a heavy Flash basis, Flashkit gives you the Tutorials and files to create endless animation and webapp possibilies.
Kuler – So I can see it now your reading this post going , “Damn I thought NWK was all about fresh shoes and hip hop [read Rah's post right under this for your fix] whats with this Flash developer stuff” well no fear this next site is applicable for everyone. Or at least those of us who want to match. Kuler is a community populated index of color pallets, sounds alittle wierd, well it is .But as a designer it’s useful. Ever have a client that gives you a color say Pantone 567, and tells you to match the green but don’t make it “look like a John Deer Ad,” thats where Kuler comes in. Kuler gives the user the ability to search from an ever growing database of pallets, or by using Kuler’s color matching tools allows the user to create a unique pallet of your own. You can even register and share your pallets with others, but we all know you don’t play well so that probably won’t happen.
Finally, this last sight is a GEM, and I know you’ve all probably used it once or twice but if you haven’t… Get on it.
Flickr – That’s right Flickr, the same site that houses every person you knows vacation pictures is one of the best possible tools a designer could ever use. Stock photo websites cost money, and usually after searching 3 you notice that they also have basically the same images. This is not the case with Flickr, with new images being uploaded every minute of every day, your possibilities are almost endless. Make sure to contact the person who took the picture if you plan on using it, but go nuts, look around, I bet you find at least 10x the number of beer bong or keg stand shots than on your average stock image site, and if your designing for people that aren’t on spring break, you will probably be able to find that here too.
Ok, well I hope that helps you kill some time and helps improve design. and without further adieu some EFX.
and to get u ready for Rah’s post some Bling! (well, not really, but shiny suits)
OSH loves graffiti art, especially the digital kind. I was checking out some graffiti sites and ran it this graffiti creator, www.graffiticreator.net. This is the coolest graffiti creator thus far. You can choose all type of letters, changes colors, add elements like bubbles, lines, and highlights. Plus, it’s madd easy to do. So you go make some and let OSH see your skills.
Ok, so after a day of STD E-cards and clothes that help you hide from would be attackers The Nappy 1 is back to give you some more lighter news.
The first topic on todays agenda is getting out – and the ever bustling Urban Setting that is San Diego give us a great chance to get out and get cultured 1nc a month. The First Thursday of every month from about 7pm to about 10 pm the downtown version of the Museum of Contemporary Art turns into a bar/ music venue. As part of the monthly collection change, 91X one of the San Diego Rock stations brings in a DJ or Band to play a free show in front of the Museum, it hasn’t been anyone big but live music is always a plus. Hipster Girls and their Emo-Bro’d out (yeah its possible but i think only down here ) San Diego male counterparts fill both the museum and the plaza out front trying to get the crowd involved in some form of Interactive Art project, [last time it was Pictures as an Animal and a huge Mad Libs wall].
And the girls that come out look good so your white t-shirt paint-splatter-I’m-an-artist jeans doesn’t cut it here guys, artists go to museums so Stop Frontin’ this isn’t the place to pull the urinal off the wall and call yourself Duchamp.
The line up for tonight looks something like this
THURSDAY, AUGUST 7
OPTIMAL ILLUSION Celebrate the opening of the new exhibition Memory Is Your Image of Perfection, featuring photographic and video works by women artists from Southern and Baja California; create your own cut-and-paste collaged postcards (inspired by artist Barbara Kruger); and enjoy live DJ sets by Kelly and Maren (of Wild Weekend) and DJ Pnutz
If you can’t get out to TNT, or you just don’t live in SD, don’t worry, I got Ya.
Normally I won’t give TV Picks, and my daily routine of Pardon The Interruption and the Daily Show doesn’t really change much, but tonight on History, thats right one of the BEST channels on TV, is hosting a 1 hour episode of their new how-they-do-it-and-why show “The Works” on Sneakers. I stumbled acrossed “The Works” last week when I DVR’d the episode on my first love Beer and this week is no different, the DVR is Set.
The show uses a good mix of science and well planned Info graphics to get even the most intense concept, like the distribution by Brewery size of all the beer sold in the US, to any audience. The host a comes off as a young, agreeable, even cool science nerd who loves his job [and why wouldn't he so far in 2 weeks he's taste tested beer and this week he gets custom kicks]. So basically if you can’t get out tonight or just don’t want to give the DVR a workout, check out “The Works
