Reading NWK amazing political post gave me an idea about something.

-Short Rant-

Last nite on BET, I seen the making of the video for T-Pain’s new single Can’t Believe It, and what came to my mind was Styles P’s video Blow My Mind. Different director, different artist, but same concept …hmmm. I think Styles P was used for reference…or just a stolen concept. I guess there’s nothing new under the sun. Check it out. You be the judge.

So with the DNC, and I guess the Republican National Convention, upon us I am here to say, ” I am one of America’s Young Voters” and if you can’t tell who I’m voting for you may want to read this blog alittle more.

So as one of “America’s Young Voters” here is my NONcourt ordered PSA.

But for those of you who don’t know who you’re voting for, the next two weeks of setting agendas and VP talk will completely confuse you, not to mention ALL THE ADS.

And how would I judge products without the packaging?

Now McCain seems to go with the classic, black and gold traditional font, solid familiar, an old friend (wow you would not believe how hard it is to find this stupid McCain Poster, if the internet voted I definitely know who would win)

remind you of any other familiar sign you love.

Guinness

He’s also started placing Pro Hillary anti Obama Ads on his website but if you want more info check it out here.

As a contrary to John McCain, Barack Obama has tried to use new technologies and new ways of campaigning to really help his cause, his posters were Silk Screened, to give the candidate a soft feel utilizing a traditional pallet and graphics that mirror the current trends in pop culture, I mean look at it

Obama Poster

This Shepard Fairey image may be this elections most noticeable but doesn’t it remind you of something, you know that the kids are wearing, those Tshirts and hoodies… oh yeah

Shepard Fairey Andre the Giant

Shepard Fairey Andre the Giant

So lets take a minute and truly dissect these ads, John McCain’s style tend to be that of a more traditional, more solid brand, [yo and I love Guinness, it does have a strong history] and that is a consciouses decision he and his camp have made to differentiate themselves from the Young, Fresh Obama Camp [which seems to be latching onto technology, and the peoples disgust and distrust in the current Status Quo].

Ok so why did I, the NWK, take this blog from free hip-hop to politics. Because it seems like every celebrity in the US and especially hip hop has something to say about this election. So in order to get you OSH fiend music fix today you have to check out Rock the Vote. The site has an agenda, [its newest art draw is a Limited Edition Signed Shepard Fairey Print, hmm where did I hear that name before,] but all i want you to do is go and register. If you don’t and don’t vote; I don’t wanna hear it when your side loses [Democrats]. And if you really need the media and need these celebrities to tell you what to do, click on their YouTube, here, or they have a whole section, here, with socially conscious artists, their bios, and music [including the Flobots, Black Keys {who put on a tight show before Common killed it at the SoCo Experience Saturday}, .

here is the Rock the Vote Imeem too.

I’m prolly going to jail for this post…so get it while it’s hot!

(We get a lot of hits on our blog….can OSH at least a “Thanks” comment!!)

-Rah-

For those of you who read us here at OSH you may know that we have a thing for MC Ricky D, [Slick Rick for the hip hop challenged]. The Original London Rapper Slick Rick broke into American Hip Hop during its heyday in 1988 with The Great Adventures of Slick Rick his Platinum debut cd. His lyrical stories and smooth British accent differential Slick from the rest of the early 90’s sound and his second cd The Ruler’s Back cemented his place as one of the founders not just of Bling, but of Hip Hop.

I bring this up because today, one of my boys DanaFu emailed me a video that spurred a quest to all corners of the web and youtube to bring you some of the latest Hip Hop to cross the pond. So now its time to get you up on what’s been happening in land of Slick since.

The video that started it all was from the Blackout Crew, now I haven’t heard of this group before this morning and from the looks of it this group consists of 6 members, fusing high pace House music with UK hip hop and the sound is something they call Happy Hardcore, but check it out for yourself the songs pretty catchy and you’ll definately be bouncin your head.

So after checking my email I was immediately reminded of a hip hop duo from Essex, Dan le Sac and Scroobius Pip, or as they are known on stage Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip. It seems that the Scroobius Pip is the rapper while Dan le Sac drops the beats. I had the honor of seeing these two rip one of Coachella’s smaller tents this year and next month they will be doing a club tour on this side of the Pond. There is one show in San Diego and you know I’ll be there. If they come through your area your should definitely pay the $20 and check the show. This next video for Though Shall Always Kill is probably their best known song, but this new one Angles had a really tight stage show and the song was haunting on the same level of Eminem’s epic Stan.

even if you don’t like them as rappers these guys are cool and know their history

Well if electronic backed hip hop isn’t your thing, check out the DipSet Eurogang’s inaugural members S.A.S. Rah turned me onto these guys but I’m pretty sure it was youtube and Juelz Santana that put him onto them. Not much is known on this side of the Atlantic about S.A.S. except they want to take over both American and English hip hop and The Diplomats are tryin to make that happen. who knows maybe they’ll break but until they do they’re just – So London

No Talk of UK Hip Hop would be complete without talking about the biggest name since Slick Rick. Dizzee Rascal has been doin his thing commercially since 2003 and no other English rapper has made more of an impact over here since. Ripping clubs in the UK and throughout Europe, in 2004 Dizzee took on the heart of US hip hop and had his first American show in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. Now releasing music off his own label Dirtee Stank, Dizzee is helping UK hip hop get a legit foundation.

plus Dizzee made my theme song.

and he works with hot British chicks like Lily Allen

and who wouldn’t want UGK to help him break in over here.

Peace

Addendum: Finally I can’t believe I forgot The Streets, or Mike Skinner [however when he tours there are usually 4-5 members], another English rapper. I was turned on to The Streets about  3 to 4 years ago back in Boston by my boys Mark and Kevin [at this time Kev also turned me onto Gm Class Heroes alittle band from Geneva, NY]. The Streets have put out 4 cds and been playing live shows since 2001,
according to wikipedia and Skinner’s Myspace the fifth album,  with the working title, Computer and Blues will be the last Streets album. But since this project is also about 2 years away you have tons of time to get up on some old stuff. Its a bit more British than most of the others but …

Just like Nas , so I stepped away yesterday and figured that I would give ya’ll a day to let that new KRS1 simmer.

But I’m back and about to turn this little OSH sh!t into a sports blog real quick so if your only stoppin here for the hip hop freshness you may want to wait for Rah today. Onto the sports.

As many of you know, unless your Brandon Fraser from whatever nonMummy movie that was where he grew up in a atom bomb bunker, the Olympics are on, and so far they have been great. Not just for US
dominance, Michael Phelps with 8 swimming Gold, The May/Walsh Beach Volleyball Gold, and the 2008 USA Men’s Basketball team [ they are definately not the Dream Team and don't make them live up to the ReDeem Team, but for education. Thats right, education. Once every 4 years Americans are treated to a world class sports education in event we either never knew existed or basically cared less about because obviously we don't dominate. That being said I would like to give some love to one of the best sports noone in America knows; Handball.

So last night I was watching the Normal NBC Coverage of the Olympics, at one of the local beer and pizza joint around my apartment when the turrential downpour in China caused the weirdest thing, and entire bar of people fixated on the 20KM Womens Race Walk [basically an hour and a half, half-marathon of walking so it looks like something is stuck up your ass]. After about 6 minutes of the awkward motion that is race walking [ insert video] , the guy behind me who had been commenting on the earlier Softball game looked at me and says, ” Damn this is the boring sport in these things, I mean its worse than Handball.” Yup thats when the conversation stopped, obviously this guy has been too busy watching race walking to actually watch what some people see as the breakout sport of this Olympic games, maybe someone just forgot to tell him that there are Mandarin and Korean NBCs broadcasting sports like handball opposite the Men’s gymnastics so if the guy would channel surf he would have seen why Handball is the new fad game like “Dodgeball.”

Handball is tailored to Americans, a mixture of basketball, football, and soccer why don’t we run buckshot in this sport? The rules as I can gather from the 4 games that I’ve now seen [ granted only one of then had English announcing] are simple 2 teams pass a ball down court and shoot on goal. Each team has 1 goalie who usually doesn’t stop much, and the players can basically go anywhere except the large semi-circular crease at the opponents end. The only way to progress the ball forward is by running [ players get 3 steps] dribbling [just like basketball] which resets your step count [so for every dribble you get a new 3], and most importantly this sport is like street ball where the common belief seems to be No Blood, No Foul! Add humans hurling their bodies over the crease line making sure not to be offsides[?] and into the crease and you have one of the fastest, most intense, injury ridden sports in the world. Damn why aren’t we playing this?

The video isn’t great quality but tell me you don’t wanna try this

And if that doesn’t convince you maybe she will

Anita Gorbicz Hungarian Hottie

Anita Gorbicz Hungarian Hottie

Anita Gorbicz is the Hungarian Handball version of Jessica Alba this chick is hot, and the top sports star in her country, and oh yeah did I mention the Worlds top handball player.

Football Time…

Well not really, getting ready but my preseason question is… Damn Randy moss is a NASCAR fan? and not only that, but he’s willing to give 6 Million a year to a Truck Team. Hearing him speak on ESPN, Randy is quoted as saying “Man jus bein from the country man.. NASCAR is very big in WV … and growin up I’ve been really hit with alot of NASCAR whether it be on television or whatever.” My question is will his #81 Craftsman Series Truck win a championship before Randy? speak on it

Peace

People of the Blogosphere… What is up?

So incase you were wondering Yes, I had a case of the Mondays. That can happen though when you enjoy the weekends as much as I do. Also I want to take a minute to congratulate my cousin Kenny and his new wife Else Summers who got married over this weekend on a huge rock right on the Pacific down here in So Cal. I had a great time friday at the wedding, the reception and the after party, best of luck to you both.

Normaly I wouldn’t mention a wedding, but this one was amazing [quick, great location, natural, casual] and it was the first wedding I’ve been to where noone mentioned money or gas prices bc it was outside on an annexed spot on a local beach.

Ok now back to the OSH business at hand,

Usually I won’t sleep on Monday’s, I’m sorry, but the good news is that just like when we work together Rah had my back and gave you the new -ish to start your week.

So since he held me down yesterday, I’ve decided today to build off his first post, by giving you some of the best hip-hop/ animation crossovers.

This First video is sorta cheatin’ because the song was actually never released as a single, but the priceless costumes and fact that it was on the Simpsons makes this hard to find Ludacris spot one of my alltime favorites

And this is 50.. so I’ll hold my tongue… yeah right with all this money 50 you prolly should have spend some on lighting or maybe textures. [I went to school for this man, don't brag about money then underpay]

Murs holds it down here with a mix of Old School NES and some live action

and who could hate any of Busta’s early vids [even if it is just fisheye lens and some sweat costumes]

or

But before all of them De La was puttin’ hippie rap on by utilizing a little known technology back then [the green screen]

and even Snoop’s tryin to get alittle more animated before taking [his] “Medicine” and finishing his bluegrass project

and finally one of the dopest videos ever. hands down. Nuff said.

Peace
